Group Fitness Class Descriptions:

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR JANUARY/FEBRUARY
:

*Parent/Child Exercise Program: Members must pre-register at the front desk for each individual week.  An adult attends and participates with a child (age 9-13 years).  Each Friday in January & February will concentrate on a different fitness concept (1/6 & 2/3 - Water Fitness, 1/13 & 2/10 - Strength, 1/20 & 2/17 - Cardio, 1/27 & 2/24 - Yoga).

**Saturday Dance Cardio - will be in either Studio A or the Gymnasium, depending on the number of participants.

***Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Evening Dance Cardio Classes:  Phone Registration system - In order to participate, you must register by calling the Front Desk (704-282-4681) starting at 7:30pm the night before the class.  After registering, pick up your numbered ticket at the Front Desk, anytime the day of the class.

An instructor substitution may cause a pilates class to become a yoga class and vice versa.

Description of each class below:
(For your convenience, each class has a fitness level recommendation; however, any adult member is welcome in any class and may work at their own pace and fitness level.)

Yoga
The concept of Yoga is a union of mind and body, focusing on body mastery.  Listed below are the different levels that MAFC offers:
Gentle Yoga - focuses on range of motion for those participants who may have special needs.
All levels, ages and health concerns
Beginning Yoga - If you're interested in Yoga, this class is your starting point.  You will learn basic principals and fundamentals.
All levels
Yoga - This class format will range between concentrating on poses, utilizing props and flowing movements.
All levels - please let instructor know your level
Vinyasa - Participants will perform flowing movements while concentrating on their breathing and posture.
Intermediate and Advanced

Pilates
Make everyday life easier by improving your flexibility, posture and core body strength. Participants will perform a certain sequence of exercises while lying on a mat.  In an emergency situation, an instructor substitution may cause a pilates class to become a yoga class and vice versa.
All levels.

Yogalates
Skilled in both pilates and yoga?  This class will challenge you to participate in exercises that blend teh two body toning concepts.
Intermediate and Advanced

Flow Fusion
Interested in the concept of mind/body connection?  Participants will practice the concept with a Yoga flow combined with Pilates core work.  Depending on the length of class and the instructor, Tai Chi and/or ballet-inspired toning may also be included.
All levels

Cycle
Join our instructor on our StarTrac Spinners for a cardio class that will accomplish all your fitness needs. The 45 minute warm-up and ride will end with a stretch and abdominal work with time permitting. All levels.

Cycle & Core
After a cycling portion on the StarTrac Spinners, class will finish with exercises to strengthen your core.
All levels - 29 Cycles

Pedal, Crunch & Kick
This class is a combination of CYLE, KICKBOXING and COMPLETE CORE.
All levels - 29 Cycles

Kickboxing
This non-choreographed class is not just for guys!  Participants will increase their coordination, balance and endurance by performing combinations of punches/kicks and ending with core work.  The Express class is 25 minutes.
All levels

Dance Cardio
Great for the mind and the body, Dance Cardio utilizes a fusion of Latin, Pop, Hip Hop and International music to motivate toning one's body.  The routines combine fast and slow, easy and fun dance steps.
All levels

Intro Classes
The any class beginning with the title "Intro" is the best class for someone starting an exercise program. Learn basic movements and terminology for each class. Each class will burn calories and get you started in the right direction. Great for beginners, seniors or those with health needs.
Beginners and Seniors

Power Intervals/Step Interval
Interval training is an effective cardiovascular training method.  It includes bursts of high-intensity work interspersed with periods of low-intensity recovery periods.  Step Interval will utilize the step.
Intermediate and Advanced

Step
Get your cardio workout by maximizing your athletic ability!  Have fun in this fat burning class while moving on and around the step.  In Double Step, participants will utilize two steps/benches (not risers).
Intermediate and Advanced

Kickboxing
A non-choreographed class to bring your athletic abilities. It includes basic punches, blocks, kicks, and self defense skills. Also includes power and plyometric moves to develop muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, balance,
coordination, and mental-development. Work to your limits but maximize your potential.  Classes are offered for all three levels.
Intro to Kickboxing - Beginners / Kickboxing - Intermediate & Advanced

Circuit / Step Circuit
Get the most out of this all-around class by performing both cardio and strengthening exercises.
All Levels.

Explosive Training
Challenge yourself and get the results you are looking for!  Participate in plyometric and interval training in order to get the most out of your workout.
Intermediate and Advanced

Cardio, Cuts & Core
Get a bit of everything you need for an all-around workout.  Class will start with cardiovascular exercise, add resistance training and end with core work.
All levels

Strength & Stretch
Whether it's with equipment or body-weight, you will build muscle strength and endurance while performing resistance training.  Class will also concentrate on the benefits of flexibility strength.
All levels

Senior Fitness
A safe and slow-paced class for those members needing weight-bearing exercise to help maintain and/or increase strength for day to day functions.
Seniors and Beginners

Muscle Max
Build muscle STRENGTH and bone density in this multi-level, weighted set/rep class.  While concentrating on certain opposing muscle groups, learn to incorporate heavier weights and challenge your resistance level.
All levels

Total Body
Build muscle ENDURANCE and bone density in this multi-level, weighted, low-impact, head-to-toe class.
All levels

Toning
NO EQUIPMENT needed - just you and a mat.  The instructor will guide you through exercises geared to strengthen, tighten and tone your muslces.
All levels
